Fall is the biggest reading season, and hey, everything is getting bigger in Texas, right? Here’s a preview of the Lone Star-themed literature for the coming months, from a selection of new books by Texas authors to Austin tours of famous national authors.

New Adult Books by Austin and Other Texas Writers

Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Cormac McCarthy Returning from a 16-year publishing hiatus with not one but two new books. A related story launches Oct. 25 with Gulf Coast Passenger (Knopf, $30). When the operation began, a diver assigned to search for the wreckage of a jet plane found the black box, the pilot’s flight bag and the body of a passenger missing. “Stella Maris” (Knopf, $26), described as the epilogue of “passengers,” arrives on Dec. 6. As a transcript of the dialogue, “Stella Maris” shares the story of the brilliant math prodigy Alicia — the “passenger” diver’s sister Bobby — having vivid hallucinations. The famed privateer McCarthy lived in El Paso for nearly two decades, and Texas State University’s Witliffe Collection houses an archive of his papers.

Ling Ma will be speaking about her new book at virtual events including BookPeople on September 15th.
