Beginning on 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the work of the father of children’s author and journalist Lucy Hawking has inspired the design of the UK pavilion for the UK project at Expo 2020 Dubai.
UK Commissioner Laura Faulkner OBE said: “Professor Stephen Hawking is a true British icon and pioneering thought leader whose work and continuing legacy changed the world, so it is an honour to welcome his Daughter Lucy Hawking, participating in the UK project at Expo 2020 Dubai. We want to inspire the minds of future innovators through our content, so we look to Lucy to help us achieve this, sharing her father’s life and work, and through The art of storytelling brings magic and wonder.”Lucy Hawking says, “I am delighted to see how the UK Pavilion is inspired by my father’s work to create messages from humans through a unique combination of visitor language and artificial intelligence technology. I am also delighted that this building provides a platform for young A generation engages in the wonders of science and space, and develops imaginative solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges, including improving accessibility for all.” Expo 2020 Dubai, the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region and the largest event ever held in the Arab world, will run for six months from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. More than 200 participants, including more than 190 countries, will take part in the largest event in the Arab world. The overarching theme of Expo 2020 Dubai is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. Under the theme ‘Innovating for a Shared Future’, UK engagement will enhance the UK’s global reputation, drive future partnerships and deliver long-term economic benefits.UK participation in Expo 2020 Dubai will be led by the Department for International Trade (DIT), supported by the Departments of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Culture, Media and Sport, Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Transport, Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development Office and Decentralized Administration.
